Now that we got that ridiculous turkey-related nonsense out of the way, it’s time for a full month of pure, unadulterated Santa worship.

Max has rushed headlong into demanding everything he sees anywhere, with a Furby and a 3DS topping his Christmas list. We’ve tried to inform him that Santa can only fit so much in his sleigh for each kid, but that doesn’t seem to be sinking in very well. Owen, on the other hand, has a one-word answer any time I ask him what he’d like: “Avengers.”

The week went well enough, with a little bit of crafting to kick things off.

Slowly trickling out his birthday presents has been quite effective.

His brother has his own ideas on how to make fun for himself.

I may or may not have assisted in this process.

As for the weekend, we started with our annual visit to see the doctor.

Max was pretty happy, in part because there were no shots this year.

We also got his updated stats, which continue to push him beyond the limits of the charts.

Weight: 52 pounds

Height: 50″

Yes, that’s right. He’s over four feet tall now. His doctor revised his estimate of his eventual height to a mere 6’4″, so that’s Max’s new goal to beat.

He celebrated by getting two lollipops, for the sake of fairness.

On Saturday, we got a chance to finally enjoy an event that was cancelled last year due to weather. Our city apparently holds an annual tree lighting ceremony that is accompanied with various events.

Like writing letters to Santa.

…and writing more letters to Santa.

I think he just tossed the Angry Birds Star Wars in as a red herring, something Santa could sacrifice in favor of the remaining choices.

Owen finally added something to his list.

Then it was time to put them in the…

OOOOH! OOOOH SANTA! SANTAAAAAAAA!

…mailbox.

After that, we decided to check out the various booths lining the town square, and emerged with a couple of souvenirs.

The trees light up.

Max was pretty happy with his loot.

Owen…well, this is what happens when I ask him to pose for a photo.

They also got the opportunity to spin a wheel to get a prize.

Big money big money no whammies…

As the sun set, we found our way over to a nice long line to stand in.

Owen spent this time messing with mommy’s hair.

Max spent it doing this.

Eventually we found our way to the front.

Untitled

Owen was slightly more receptive to this than he was the last time.

He chose a snowman.

His brother asked for “an Angry Bird wearing a santa hat”.

Untitled

A little while later, after Max spent far too long on my shoulders, they lit up the tree.

Then the sky started exploding.

Max found this amazing. This was easily the closest any of us had been to a large fireworks show. We were so close, in fact, that Owen was completely terrified and started sobbing uncontrollably even though Christy had both hands clamped around his ears. Thankfully, he calmed down immediately after the finale.

See? No long term harm done.

Beyond that, it was mostly a laid back weekend. The weather turned out to be so nice on Sunday that I couldn’t help but drag the boys out of the house for a bit.

Swing time went on for a bit.

After that, we did a little running around town, headed back home for dinner, and closed out the weekend with a nice relaxing evening.

Of course, the whole weekend wasn’t just about relaxation. This is what happens when Christy goes outside and the boys are left with me to watch them.

We don’t make it out to this one often, but the boys love it when we do.
