This was an especially eventful week with the kids, with some cooperative weather and a very nice trip down to visit the grandparents. Turns out Papa has been hanging around for six decades, so it was time for us to celebrate.
But first I need my sweatshirt, because it’s cold outside.
Yes, Owen, that sweatshirt.
This is what happens when I ask him to get it for me.
The week was fairly usual, with one day involving a little more fun because the weather provided us a chance to go outside for a bit.
He was riding his scooter, but opted to stay safe for raking.
While Owen was helping with yard work, Max was making friends with one of the kids down the street. He was showing off his scooter and various Pokemon toys until it was time for dinner.
So I took some photos of Owen, who was still hanging out near the house.
At long last, the weekend arrived. We decided to leave early on Saturday rather than trying to rush out after work on Friday, which turned out to be for the best.
Immediately after we arrived, the hide and seek began.
Owen is getting better at it.
Though Max still holds his own.
Owen hid there the next time around, naturally.
After we’d run some errands and tried to get the house ready for guests, we all got some fancier clothes on to prepare for the party.
The boys are never happy in “fancy” clothes, but Nan makes it better.
Shame, too, since they look so cute in them.
Woooooo 60 years!
The kids spent most of the party playing upstairs.
Max found his electronics buddy and made it a point to stay close to him.
Meanwhile, Uncle Mike found Owen.
Who was then released to play with Kyle.
Hey look at that, we’re there too.
I’m sure he was saying something very kind about his father, or telling a filthy joke.
Ahhh, happy family.
We somehow even managed to get a decent full-family photo for the first time in a long time.
Then it was time for a kids photo.
Which, amazingly enough, also turned out okay.
EVERYBODY KISS PAPA!
Then the kids headed back upstairs.
Or part of the way upstairs, at least.
Papa blew out all his candles.
Then we all topped off our already-full bellies with some cake.
After we put the pajamas on the kids, we had to get one last photo with them before putting them to bed.
Okay, maybe two. Lots of people to say goodnight to.
After that it’s all a blur of king cake and bourbon slush and wine and well wishing that Papa has at least another couple decades in him. Sleep came far too late for us…
Of course, the boys were up at their usual crack of dawn time.
Thankfully someone brought over some buddies to keep them company later in the morning.
I think he’s trying to get her attention.
Forced hugs are the best hugs.
Had to snag one more kids photo before we headed out to treat everyone to lunch.
Then one more after lunch, for good measure.
I think it turned out to be a pretty good birthday weekend for Papa when all was said and done.
