Chalk, Soccer, and Sherman

< | >

In the wake of a crazy week, we always try to keep things somewhat simple. On occasion we can actually pull this off, but we don’t always have full control over the schedule. This week we managed to control the weekdays but not so much the weekend.

Max recently had a little science project at school that left him with a little something to bring home. He’s been begging us to use it, and we finally had a nice day to do so.

He made some sidewalk chalk, and it works!

Owen was happy to help color the sidewalk.

The rest of the weekend lead-in was fairly uneventful. We did our usual routine of school days and dinner times.

…story time for the cat…

Then, before we knew it, the weekend was upon us. Saturday morning was also in keeping with the usual routine.

Soccer time!

Owen’s been kind of hit or miss on the field lately, as the skill level of his opponents has risen considerably since last year. If we can work on getting him to be a little less timid about going after the ball, he’ll do just fine.

Sadly, Christy’s family suffered another loss this week so we traveled up to Sherman to join her family. We’ve done our best to shield the boys from these situations, as the losses have involved extended family the boys don’t know well. For them, the evening was an opportunity to hang out with their cousin for a while.

So hang out they did.

They played outside quite a bit, but we coaxed them back in for some drawing time.

Max did his best to act as a drawing teacher.

When the drawing was complete, it was time to move on to some construction work.

Max decided to try and turn his creation into a battle-vehicle.

At the end of the evening, the inevitable happened, and Mimi and Pappaw’s bed became their playground.

We packed up our two very tired boys and headed back home for a day of rest. Thankfully this would be the last weekend of bad news for us, hopefully for at least a little while.
