King Cake, Soccer, and Old Friends

< | >

We’re finally nearing the end of February and things have wound down a little, but we still had plenty to keep us occupied. This week we had plenty of good news and fun times with the boys, plus an excessive amount of baking.

We’ll start with the baking. A while back, Christy signed us up to bring some treats in for the teachers at Max’s school. Given that Fat Tuesday was nigh, I decided it would be a good time to dust off the old king cake recipe and make a cake. Unfortunately, we found out fairly last minute that one cake wasn’t quite going to cut it. There were a lot more teachers than we’d originally estimated.

So we put everyone to work.

Eventually we had just enough to feed everyone.

Later in the week we received the long-awaited results of Max’s gifted and talented testing, which he took back in January. Turns out he made the cut, and will be starting his GT sessions within the next few weeks. I can neither confirm nor deny that the king cakes had anything to do with this decision.

When the weekend arrived, it brought a highly surprising and unanticipated event.

Just kidding! Soccer game!

Sometimes I think he enjoys the sideline time more than the game.

We sent Max off to learn about gender equality. He got schooled by the sister of one of the other players on Max’s team.

At the end of the day, we decided it was time to take a long-delayed trip. We somehow managed not to visit our old friends for several months after Christmas.

This almost immediately happened. Max has been dying to play 3DS with someone for months.

They eventually took a break so they could open long-awaited Christmas presents.

Max got about a million rainbow loom bands. That’ll keep him busy for a week or two.

Many more video games were played, far later into the night than the boys are ever allowed to be awake.

They get a little goofy when they’re tired.

After all that silliness, we headed home with two very exhausted boys. We spent Sunday trying to keep things as laid back as possible, since we had quite the week ahead of us. More on that next time.
