Nan’s Birthday

< | >

Given that we clearly hadn’t done enough travel over the last few weeks, we felt it would be a good idea to take the drive down to Houston. We’ve been neglecting to come down and visit Nan on her birthday lately and it felt like the right thing to do. Turns out they could use the company for more than just togetherness and celebration.

They needed some lawn work done, too.

Papa’s dealing with some mobility and health issues at the moment, so we all tried to pitch in and help them get their house ready for Christmas.

Not sure how the dancing helped, but I’m sure it served some purpose.

We decided to take Nan out for a nice meal on Saturday to celebrate her birthday. The kids tagged along for comic relief purposes.

That one’ll probably end up in the book next year.

I don’t know what they were doing, but it was making them laugh so we allowed it to continue.

Took a few tries on that one, but I think it turned out okay.

When we got back to the house Papa needed to run a few errands for a project he was working on. I went along with him and apparently missed out on all the fun.

A family tradition passed down through generations.

They were all so helpful that we decided to let them goof off the rest of the night. We had the Wii set up upstairs for them. Eventually the games gave way to a movie, so we broke out the popcorn.

Mmmm. Popcorn.

In the morning we all got ourselves dressed up so we could head out to church. The kids were well behaved thanks to copious amounts of tic tac toe and coloring pages, and we managed to get a few decent photos when we were done.

So much red.

Sooooooo much.

The kiddos played in the kids play center for a few minutes, then we headed out and grabbed some lunch. Not too long after that it was time for us to say our goodbyes so we could get back home and prepare to draw another week closer to Christmas. It was a great trip and we were glad we could help Nan and Papa out so they wouldn’t have to bear the burden of Christmas decorations all by themselves.
